For many of you this is your first big move from the safe cosy nest into the big bad world. Its normal to be nervous but it’s time to get excited, you’re going to meet lots of new people and friends who will make it a memorable experience for you, so much so that you will dread going home every summer.
Let’s be real, it’s not realistic that everything you own will fit into your new room so you need to be smart about what you’re going to bring. Remember that if you do forget anything it’s not like you’re moving from Mars, you can always pop home or get it posted to you!
Let’s start with your bedroom, your hub for the next 9 months. You will need to bring your own duvet, duvet covers, pillows and pillow covers and bed sheets and bring multiples. Before you go to the shop, check what size bed you will have, superior double room or an accessible room your bed is a 4ft 6inch double bed while a classic double room have a 4ft double bed.
Next up, clothes. Bring a wide variety, from casual and comfies to dressier night outfits. You might have great intentions of dressing nice everyday of college but realistically you will probably wear the same cosy clothes over and over.
Don’t forget that you will have presentations throughout the year so you will need smart clothes too, but you can always get them at a later date! Hangers are a must for the wardrobe provided!
Each bedroom has its own ensuite, so bring whatever you need because its your own space. The essentials for the first night, toothbrush and toothpaste, toilet roll, towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash . Everything else is up to you and a shop is always nearby.
There is a laundry facility on campus but you will need your own laundry detergent etc. Don’t forget the basic cleaning products.
The kitchen is the shared area but remember everyone will be bringing their own stuff so don’t over pack for the kitchen. All you need is enough to cover you, 1 or 2 of each item is plenty. The basics include glasses, mugs, cutlery bowls and plates. Other cooking utensils such as pots and pans are dependent on how much cooking you really think you will be doing or if you will be living off pot noodles.
It would be a good idea to bring the basics for your first day but Tesco delivery is just a click away.
Hopefully this was helpful for you and we look forward to seeing you very soon.
