eber MIE FAQ

You must be a student enrolled in a university or college and be 17 years of age or older to live here.  Priority is offered to applicants studying at MIE, however we do have a limited number of places available to students of other colleges and universities.

Students apply online.  The application process for academic year 2020/21 will open on Monday 9 March 2020.  Simply follow us on Facebook (@eberMIE) for updated information on opening.

First Year Applicants are invited to complete an application form and pay a €50 application fee online.  Then there are two options:

  1. If you wish to guarantee a room reservation in advance of the CAO offers, choose the ‘Advance Booking’ option to apply for a room and prepay 4 weeks rent to secure a room. Please note the 4 weeks rent is non-refundable (unless you do not achieve the CAO points required for an MIE course, in which case you may apply for a refund of the 4 weeks rent by email within 24 hours of first-round CAO offers).
  1. Alternatively, once you have paid the €50 application fee, you may choose the ‘Online Application’ option which opens on the day first-round CAO offers are published.

If you are offered a room under either option, you will be required to pay the first term’s rent, a €350 security deposit and return a signed licence agreement within 48 hours of the first-round CAO offers in order to confirm your reservation.

Please note all applications are subject to availability and payment of the €50 application fee does not guarantee you a room. Priority is given to MIE students, but we have a limited number of rooms available for students attending other colleges. The €50 application fee is non-refundable in all instances

We do our best to allocate rooms based on year of study, gender, age and any other requirement requested.  Your room number will be provided at check-in.

Due to data protection, we are unable to disclose who will be sharing your apartment.

We have a limited number of rooms available to rent for a single semester.  Requests for semester lets are only accepted by email and should be submitted to mie@eber.life

Semester Lets will only be accepted where:

(a) another student has reserved the room for Semester 2 and has signed a licence to reside, or

(b) a student signs a full year licence and only requires accommodation for one semester.  On receipt of a semester let request, we will try to ‘match’ requests from other students and identify another student who will take over a new licence for the second semester.

If one of the students cancel, then the other may have to forfeit their booking if a replacement cannot be found or is liable to pay the other’s rent.

In both instances, the Semester 2 student must prepay 50% of the Semester 2 rent on signing the licence.

Please get in touch and let us know your requirements.

There are two payment options.  You can choose to pay for the full academic year upfront or in two instalments.  Full upfront payment for the academic year, based on 7-night weekly stays, include a €250 discount.

For Current Students – the first instalment is due on June 1st.

For CAO/First Year Applicants – the first instalment is due once you are offered a room post the CAO offers.

For Trinity IFP Applicants – full prepayment is required.

We cannot accept weekly or monthly payments.

Rent payments are accepted by electronic bank transfer.

Yes, you will need a guarantor.

If you are a First Year applicant and take up residence, you will be required to pay a €350 Security Deposit.

If you are a Current Student or Trinity IFP applicant, your €350 Administration Fee converts to a Security Deposit.

The deposit is held against any damage to the room (taking wear and tear into consideration), any damage to the furnishings or other equipment provided and any unpaid room fees or other charges incurred during the duration of your licence.

Absolutely, we’d love to show you around.  Simply get in touch with the on-site Residence Team to arrange a suitable time.

If you wish to cancel your reservation for whatever reason, please advise us by email as soon as possible at mie@eber.life explaining the reason for cancelling.  All cancellations must be submitted by email.  Unfortunately we cannot accept cancellations by phone.

If you are unable to move in, please get in touch as you are legally bound to pay your full year’s rent upon signing your licence.

The administration fee is non-refundable.

If you are a CAO/First Year applicant and have chosen the ‘Advance Booking’ option and paid 4 weeks rent, but wish to cancel, the following refund policy applies:

  • If you have not achieved enough points to secure a place on a course at Marino Institute of Education, the 4 weeks rent may be refunded to you.  To apply for the refund, you must inform us by email within 24 hours of the first-round CAO offers being made that you will not be availing of the accommodation.  You will need to provide satisfactory evidence of CAO points obtained.  Please get in touch by email to notify us within 24 hours of the first-round CAO offers being made.
  • If you are cancelling your booking for any other reason, the 4 weeks rent is non-refundable.
  • The €50 Application Fee is non-refundable in all instances.

The application fee may not be transferred to different years.  It is non-refundable.

All cancellations must be made in writing by email.  Please get in touch by email.  On receipt, we will re-market the room.  If a replacement is found, once they have paid their first term’s rent, we will refund your first term’s rent, less the administration fee and rent due for any void period, in the event the cancellation was received after the licence period commenced.
